SEAI Heat Pump Grant Ireland
The SEAI Heat Pump Grant is a Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland scheme funding up to €12,500 toward a new air-to-water or ground-source heat pump. SEAI increased the maximum from €6,500 on 3 February 2026. The bundle covers the heat pump unit, a heating system upgrade, and a renewable heat bonus paid after 12 months of verified operation.
How the €12,500 Bundle Breaks Down
Air-to-water and ground-source systems qualify for a different, larger bundle than air-to-air. These aren’t the same grant at two amounts, the components genuinely differ.
Air-to-water & ground-source
Apartments cap at €9,500.
Air-to-air
No heating-upgrade component, air-to-air systems don’t use radiators.
The full €4,000 renewable heat bonus requires replacing an existing fossil-fuel or electric-storage heating system. A separate €200 technical assessment grant is also available.
Who Qualifies for the Heat Pump Grant
SEAI Heat Pump Grant Application Process
Pre-works BER assessment
Records the Heat Loss Indicator and confirms whether insulation work needs to happen first.
Get installer quotes
At least one quote from an SEAI-registered installer, required to submit the application.
Submit the SEAI application
Uses the property’s MPRN and the pre-works BER. Filed through the SEAI online portal, or by a One Stop Shop provider on the homeowner’s behalf.
Letter of Offer acceptedcritical
Work cannot start before SEAI issues and the homeowner accepts the Letter of Offer. Starting early disqualifies the claim entirely.
Installation and post-works BER
The installer fits the system, then a new BER assessment records the improved rating to close out the claim.
Renewable heat bonus paid12 months later
The €4,000 bonus component is paid after 12 months of verified operation, not at installation.
One Stop Shop vs Individual Grant
A One Stop Shop provider manages survey, application, and installation as a single package, deducting the grant value upfront so the homeowner pays only the balance. From March 2026, the One Stop Shop’s minimum 100 kWh/m²/year energy uplift requirement was removed for projects that include a heat pump.
Better Energy Homes individual grants and One Stop Shop grants are different schemes. The same measure can pay a different amount under each, they’re not interchangeable figures for the same thing.
Landlords qualify too. The same individual SEAI grants available to owner-occupiers apply to rental properties, worth knowing since this gets missed often.

SEAI Heat Pump Grant Questions
How much is the SEAI heat pump grant now?
Up to €12,500 for houses installing air-to-water or ground-source systems, €9,500 for apartments, and €7,500 for air-to-air systems.
When is the renewable heat bonus paid?
After 12 months of verified operation, not at the time of installation. The €6,500 unit portion and €2,000 heating-upgrade portion are handled earlier in the process.
Can I combine the heat pump grant with other SEAI grants?
Individual SEAI grants generally stack across different measures, but the heat pump grant cannot combine with the heating controls grant on the same application, and it’s a separate scheme from One Stop Shop rates for the same measure.
Do landlords qualify for the grant?
Yes. Landlords qualify for the same individual SEAI grants as owner-occupiers.
What if my home doesn’t meet the fabric standard?
Insulation work needs to happen first, bringing the Heat Loss Indicator to 2.3 or below, or reaching a Good or Very Good rating on a BER Advisory Report.
